Recent Work I’ve Enjoyed
Every so often, I look back at articles that started as ideas scribbled in notebooks and eventually became published pieces. Each one teaches me something about writing, but also about the unexpected ways ideas, people, and stories connect.
I don’t pick favorites, but I do like to occasionally gather a few pieces that I especially enjoyed working on. You can find these articles elsewhere on my website, but I wanted to bring together a handful from the many I’ve published so far this year.

I don’t write about my heart dog enough. I grew up with an English Cocker Spaniel named Riley. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t think I would have become the dog trainer and business owner I am. This is a short personal piece where I talk a bit about Riley.

While I often write about animal shelters and adopting pets, this article was different because it focused on what to do when visiting animals in shelters. I wondered how many people realize how much their behavior matters during a visit. With the help of expert interviews, I hope to share important information about visiting animal shelters.
What’s Next?
When I’m learning about a topic or working on a story, it’s hard not to share my enthusiasm. I’ve been doing a ton of research, having conversations, and learning for upcoming pieces. While I can’t share what those stories will be about just yet (as much as I want to), I hope you will be here when they are published. The writing process fascinates me. I am constantly scribbling ideas down by hand. In fact, many of my articles start with entries in my personal journal about something I want to learn about and explore. When I look back, I am amazed at how my notes, which sometimes seem random at first, begin to connect. Writing challenges me in unique ways. I can only hope that someone, somewhere, finds something I write helpful or enjoyable.
